(12/31) Biogio's Beauty heads
up New York-bred open exacta
Joseph and Alfred Nastasi's BIOGIO'S BEAUTY made it two in
a row !!!
Against open company competition, and closing strongly to
defeat NW-2X open allowance fillies and mares, three year-olds
and upwards, at Aqueduct Racetrack, heading up a New York-bred
exacta with Hot Golden Jet that paid $31.00. Trained by the
talented but unheralded Robert Ribaudo, Biogio's Beauty was
ridden to victory by Mike Luzzi. With today's winner's share
of $27,600, the three year-old dark bay stake-placed filly
elevated her lifetime earnings to $183,862 in 16-career starts.
A field of six loaded into the gate for the 1-1/8th mile affair
which was run over the winterized inner-track, labeled fast.
Stakes-placed Hot Golden Jet went to the post as the even-money
favorite.
Bel Baie led the field around the first turn and down the
backstretch as Biogio's Beauty raced in third and Hot Golden
Jet rated in fifth-position past a half-mile in 48-4/5ths
and three-quarters in 1:13-3/5. Biogio's Beauty moved to the
leader while three-wide around the last turn and once straightened
for home took a short lead, which she increased to a length
crossing the wire. Final time was 1:53-2/5ths.
Bred by Gary Mottola and Glen Grey Farm, who qualified for
a breeder's award of $2,760, Biogio's Beauty was purchased
by the Nastasi brothers at the 2001 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga
Preferred Yearling sale for $23,000. For the open company
score, the Nastasi brothers together qualified for an owner's
award of $2,760. Biogio's Beauty is the third winner produced
from stakes-placed winner Night Sparkler, whom Glen Grey Farm
had purchased for $20,000 at Keeneland's 1999 November sale
when she was carrying Biogio's Beauty.
The sire of Biogio's Beauty, multiple Grade 2 winner Distorted
Humor, also is the sire of New York-bred Kentucky Derby-Preakness
winner Funny Cide ($2,099,385), who sold at the same Saratoga
preferred yearling sale as Biogio's Beauty -- slightly less
than two hours earlier. Dam Night Sparkler, whose offspring
also include $219,623-earner Brilliant Display plus the dam
of stakes winner Finnegan McCool, is by Pleasant Colony and
is a half-sister to stakes winner Xwoni Xwoni ($110,268) and
to the dam of multiple stakes winner The Unforgiven ($287,909).

Biogio's Beauty breezes to open allowance win
Scoring her first open allowance victory and her first
tally at a mile and an eighth, Joseph and Alfred Nastasi's
BIOGIO'S BEAUTY came confidently from off the pace to
capture Aqueduct's sixth race on Saturday, a $44,000
open N1X contest for fillies and mares, three-year-olds
and up. Favored at 1.15-to-1 among seven starters and
ridden for the second consecutive time by Richard Migliore,
the three-year-old filly settled easily on the outside
of 15.90-to-1 fifth choice Someones Coming in fourth
place in the early running, as 21.60-to-1 sixth choice
Sounds Fishy set the pace. Challenging the front-runner
through six furlongs in the two-turn race was 10.30-to-1
third choice Purloin, but Biogio's Beauty relentlessly
closed ground on the two early contenders going down
the backstretch and finally pulled abreast of them while
advancing three wide on the second turn. By mid-stretch,
the dark bay filly had a two-length margin over Purloin
and was drawing away from that rival, and she reached
the wire under a hand ride with a length and a half
advantage over 1.40-to-1 second choice Alluring, a late-closing
homebred from the Ogden Mills Phipps stable. Purloin
finished third, followed by Sounds Fishy. It was the
second winning ride of the day aboard a New York-bred
for New York native and resident Migliore, who also
guided A One Rocket to victory in Aqueduct's Saturday
opener.
Trained by Robert Ribaudo, Biogio's Beauty has scored
all of her victories on Aqueduct's main tracks, winning
her six-furlong debut as a juvenile (outer track), then
capturing restricted N1X and N2X allowances going a
mile and a sixteenth on Valentines Day (inner) and a
one-turn mile on April 9 (outer). After sending her
out with blinkers for 10 consecutive starts, including
the one-turn mile tally in her second outing while wearing
a hood and a runner-up effort in Finger Lakes' New York
Oaks on Labor Day, Ribaudo had taken the blinkers off
for Saturday's race. He also again gave a leg up to
Migliore, who had first been aboard Biogio's Beauty
for a favored fifth-place effort in an open N1X allowance
at a mile and an eighth at Aqueduct on November 16,
when she had showed early outside speed before tiring.
For a final conditioning drill, Ribaudo had the New
York-bred filly work a half-mile at Belmont in 49 3/5
eight days prior to Saturday's victory, which increased
the earnings for Biogio's Beauty by $26,400 to $156,262
while improving her record to 4 - 2 - 3 in 15 starts.
In addition to the $26,400 in purse earnings, the win
by Biogio's Beauty also qualified her owners, Joseph
and Alfred Nastasi of Saratoga Springs, for a $2,640
open race owner award. The owners had purchased the
filly for $23,000 at Fasig-Tipton's 2001 Saratoga preferred
yearling sale, prior to which she had gone through the
ring as a $19,000 "reserve not attained" weanling
at Keeneland's 2000 November sale. Bred by Gary Mottola
of Oakland, New Jersey and Glen Grey Farm, who qualified
for a $2,640 breeder award, Biogio's Beauty is the third
winner produced from stakes-placed winner Night Sparkler,
whom Glen Grey Farm had purchased for $20,000 at Keeneland's
1999 November sale when she was carrying Biogio's Beauty.

game Biogio's Beauty wins allowance
Joseph and Alfred Nastasi's BIOGIO'S BEAUTY seeking
her third career victory gamely prevailed after
a prolonged stretch duel to beat NW-2X state-bred
allowance fillies and mares, three year-olds and
upward, today over the sloppy going at Aqueduct
Racetrack. Trainer Robert Ribaudo named jockey
Shaun Bridgmohan to ride the three year-old dark
bay daughter of Distorted Humor. The one-mile
one-turn race was run over the main track.
Breaking alertly from the outside post-position,
Biogio's Beauty rated kindly behind Private Port
in the run down the backstretch. Nearing the far
turn, Biogio's Beauty ranged up to encounter Private
Port as Hot Golden Jet tracked in third. In the
middle of the turn, Biogio's Beauty assumed the
lead with the undefeated Hot Golden Jet mounting
a serious threat on the outside. The pair battled
head to head through the stretch, with Biogio's
Beauty holding off her nemesis by a nose crossing
the wire. Final time on the off going was 1:38.1.
Bred by Gary Mottola, who qualified for a breeder
award of $2,760, Biogio's Beauty is out of the
stakes-placed Pleasant Colony mare, Night Sparkler,
a half-sister to stakes winner Xwoni Xwoni (Track
Barren). The talented filly was purchased out
of the 2001 Fasig-Tipton Preferred Yearling Sale
in Saratoga for $23,000 and has now banked $85,590
in six-career starts.

Biogio's Beauty rallies to take nightcap
at Big A !!!
BIOGIO'S BEAUTY, racing around two turns
for the first time, rallied in deep
stretch to capture a state-bred allowance
race for 3 year-old fillies who were
non-winners-1X other than Maiden or
Claiming race. The mile and a sixteenth
race was run around two turns over the
winterized inner-track at Aqueduct.
Listed as the last race on the St. Valentine's
Day card, 9 fillies went to post, with
trainer Robert Ribaudo naming Shaun
Bridgmohan to ride.
Soon after the break Storm On The Lake
stumbled, unseating jockey Dale Whittaker
who jumped up off the ground immediately
and appeared to be uninjured. Storm
On The Lake bolted going into the first
turn impeding the progress of Debbie's
Way and Toga's Triumph. Scarlet Billows
went to the lead with Cologny in hot
pursuit. Biogio's Beauty, breaking from
the 10-post, came away in mid-pack on
the outside and was hung out three wide
into the first turn. Scarlett Billows
lead down the backside with Cologny
taking command just past the half-mile
pole. At the top of the stretch, Cologny
opened up by almost two-lengths as Bridgmohan
urged Biogio's Beauty to change leads.
Once accomplished, Biogio's Beauty hit
another gear and drove past the leader
and drew off to a 1-3/4 length victory
at the wire. Coo Cold Bird closed late
to edge out Cologny for place.
Owned by Joseph and Alfred Nastasi and
bred by Gary F. Mottola, Biogio's Beauty
is by the leading first-crop sire Distorted
Humor, out of Night Sparkler, by Pleasant
Colony. The three-year old dark bay
filly was purchased out of the 2001
Fasig-Tipton Preferred Yearling Sale
in Saratoga for $23,000. Mr. Mottola
qualified for a breeder's award of $5,280
for the victory of Biogio's Beauty,
who has now earned $56,930 in four lifetime
starts. |

Rockin Rachel Anne and Karakorum Kiss vied
